Biden touts 'really big' accomplishments at debate...but Dem voters can't name any

  • Former Vice President Joe Biden said Tuesday that he was the "only one" on the debate stage who had "gotten anything really big done."
  • Democrat voters who spoke with Campus Reform had other thoughts.

Former Vice President Joe Biden singled himself out during Tuesday night's Democrat presidential debate as the "only one on this stage that has gotten anything really big done."

Responding to a question from CNN's Anderson Cooper on whether Biden's primary opponents, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, can beat President Donald Trump in 2020, Biden said the two candidates' visions are "attracting a lot of people" and that much of they say is "really important." However, Biden attempted to set himself apart as being the only one on the stage with real accomplishments.

"I don't know of a specific accomplishment of his."

“I’m going to say something that is probably going to offend some people here, but I’m the only one on this stage that has gotten anything really big done, from the Violence Against Women Act to making sure that we pass the Affordable Care Act," Biden asserted

However, Biden's bold claim contradicts what Democrat voters told Campus Reform in August, just before the second Democrat presidential primary debate in Detroit. With the former vice president sitting at number one in the Democrat primary polls at that time, Campus Reform's Cabot Phillips asked voters outside the debate hall what has been Biden's single biggest accomplishment, a question they struggled to answer.

“I’ll be honest with you, I’m drawing a blank on what he’s accomplished," one man said.

"I don't know if I have an answer for that," another said.

"I don’t know of a specific accomplishment of his," yet another stated.
